About the Course

This course will review how to incorporate genetic information and genetic testing into clinical practice by investigating genotype-phenotype correlations in hereditary posterior segment diseases including retinitis pigmentosa, Stargardt disease, age-related macular degeneration (AMD), Leber congenital amaurosis,  achromatopsia, X-linked juvenile retinoschisis,  Best disease and Leber hereditary optic neuropathy (LHON).  Clinical characteristics of these diseases and new developments in technology that aid in very early disease detection and management are reviewed.  Updates in pharmacogenomics, or tailored treatment for specific mutations in some of these diseases are discussed.
